Discovering Art in the Everyday: Transforming your original image

In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us. The ordinary elements of our world textures, colours, and details often go unnoticed. But what if you could pause for a moment, shift your perspective, and find art in the everyday?


This activity invites you to see the world differently, transforming seemingly mundane scenes into creative compositions. With just your mobile device and a little imagination, you’ll explore nature’s hidden artistry, experiment with photo editing, and maybe even reflect on the process. Whether you choose to enhance an image, write down your thoughts, or simply enjoy the moment, this experience is all about connecting with your surroundings and appreciating the unappreciated.


So, take a breath, look closely, and let’s discover the art that’s all around you.

 

What is this activity about?

Reflecting on the often-overlooked aspects of nature, have you ever considered how to transform a non-appealing element of a landscape for example into something artistically captivating? Or perhaps adding artistic elements to an image you've already captured?


This meaningful activity will allow you to:

  • Use your mobile device to take a selection of images

  • Enhance the look of the original image

  • Use your mobile editing software to make changes to the original image until a suitable composition is achieved

  • Consider Journalling your thoughts


For this Meaningful experience you will need:

  • A mobile device

 

Do I need a particular skill?

To get started, you'll need to learn how to take a screenshot and navigate your mobile device editing software. (Don’t worry, any search engine or YouTube tutorial can walk you through the process, as it varies depending on the make of your device).

 

Now let’s begin...

  • Enjoy the moment

  • Look at your surrounds

  • What has drawn your attention to the area you have chosen?

    •  Approach the scene – (Suggestion: No more than ½ metre away)   

    • Capture the image (Tips consider textures, colours)

    • Use your fingers to magnify a specific area of the image

    • Take a screen shot

    • Save image to your photos

    • Open the new magnified image

    • Use your editing software to make changes,

    • Use as many of the different features including the crop and orientation tools.

    • This is where I am going to leave you to experiment. You may wish to follow some or all of the process again to give your image the extra edge. You decide! – Suggestion: Save your image after every completed edit) 

 

 Remember: It is not about the quality of your images but more so of the enjoyment you had taking them!
